As mentioned in previous post, Paya Lebar Quarter is located very near Paya Lebar MRT Station. We will now explain more about this MRT Stations and why this is a strategic location.

About Paya Lebar MRT Station

Paya Lebar MRT Station is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the East West Line and the Circle Line in Singapore. It is the first station in Singapore that serves both an elevated line (East West Line) and an underground line (Circle Line).

Paya Lebar MRT Station was first started in operation on 4 November 1989, serving the East West Line. This was till later on 17 April 2010, the Circle Line platforms opened, with the aim on  shortening the travelling time from the station to Bishan where commuters can transfer to the North South Line.

Paya Lebar MRT StationLike many other above-ground stations, the Paya Lebar MRT Station was built without platform screen doors. This safety feature prevents commuters from fallen onto the MRT tracks was added to the station in January 2011.

The underground section was built later, so this feature was included in the original construction. To improve air ventilation on the Paya Lebar MRT Station’s platforms, high volume, and low speed fans were added in July of 2012.

As contra to others perceptions, Paya Lebar MRT Station is not located in Paya Lebar but located in Geylang East, near the Paya Lebar Square and Singapore Post’s headquarters. It was named after the Para Lebar estate. Nearby attractions include the Tanjong Katong Complex, One KM Mall, City Plaza, and Paya Lebar Square.
Paya Lebar MRT Station consists of both elevated and underground platforms. The East West Line elevated platform is made of two platforms in an island-like formation. It is roomy and easy to navigate. Connecting the elevated and underground levels are stairs, escalators, and lifts.

The underground Circle Line platform is made up of four platforms that form a double island. Both platforms contain Passenger Information Systems that display expected arrival times and messages.
