A bustling commercial hub, Paya Lebar Central, seems set to welcome a fresh hive of activity with offices, hotels, retail and attractive public spaces. Paya Lebar is among the commercial hearts as part of URA’s decentralisation strategy that is larger in the Concept Plan to supply options for businesses and jobs closer to residences to be developed outside the city centre.

Existing developments like Geylang Serai Market and festivities like the Hari Raya Bazaars along Geylang Road lead to the identifying local Malay identity of the area. This identity will be further improved with the approaching new Geylang Serai Market and new public spaces.

A vibrant commercial hub

A fresh public plaza next to the Paya Lebar MRT Interchange will become a focus for actions and an all-natural gathering spot for commuters, shoppers, and the office crowd.

Geylang River will be an integral attribute in the plans for Paya Lebar Central. The river can be incorporated with future developments, creating appealing public spaces at the new commercial center, as water levels stabilise with the end of the Marina Barrage.

Elaborate shopping, dining, working and relaxing by the picturesque Geylang River amidst greenery around waterfront views?

When a recently built expanse of Geylang River right at the center of a brand new commercial development along Tanjong Katong Road is finished this will be possible. A combination of retail, office and resort developments will bring life to the riverbanks.

Availability will be further improved when the new Paya Lebar MRT interchange station for the Circle and East-West lines open in 2010.

Getting around Paya Lebar Central itself will be at ease for pedestrians with the inclusion of more joined covered paths, overhead bridges, and underground pathways. The walk along Geylang Road may also be exciting with outside kiosks and delightful smells wafting from cafes.
